New Delhi, Aug 12: Faisal Patel, son of late Congress stalwart Ahmed Patel, has lauded the Narendra Modi-led government, stating that the “country is in safe hands”, while clarifying that he is not upset with the Congress and has only taken a sabbatical from public life.
Months after announcing that he had “stopped working” for the Congress due to being “denied” opportunities to follow in his father’s footsteps, the 44-year-old said, “The whole party is my family, and I have good relations with senior leaders. I have not left Congress, I have just taken a break.”
Praising the Modi government over the Pahalgam terror attack response and Operation Sindoor, Faisal said, “The armed forces have done a great job, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi showed great leadership. I have a lot of respect for Jaishankar. How Modiji promotes capable bureaucrats to ministerial roles is a very good thing.”
While praising Rahul Gandhi as a “hardworking leader” and naming Shashi Tharoor, DK Shivakumar, Revanth Reddy, Deependra Hooda, and Sachin Pilot as “very capable Congress leaders”, Faisal criticised certain senior leaders’ advisors for “not doing a good job” in guiding the party.
Ahmed Patel, known as the Congress’s master strategist and Sonia Gandhi’s key aide, passed away in 2020 due to Covid-19. His son’s remarks come amid changing political equations in Gujarat’s Bharuch, a seat the BJP has held since 1989.
