Bengaluru, Aug 14: Kannada film star Darshan Thoogudeepa was taken into custody on Thursday soon after arriving at his wife’s apartment in Hosakerehalli, following the Supreme Court’s cancellation of his bail in the Renukaswamy murder case.

Darshan, who had been out of station, returned to the city after police informed him of the court order and instructed him to appear before them. He arrived in a high-end SUV but switched to another vehicle mid-way, reportedly to evade the media gathered near the apartment. He then entered the premises through a back entrance.

Co-accused Pavithra Gowda, six others also arrested

Earlier in the day, police arrested Darshan’s close associate and co-accused Pavithra Gowda, along with six other accused in the case. They were taken to the Annapoorneshwari Nagar police station for formalities.

Officials said all the accused, including Darshan, will be taken for a mandatory medical examination before being produced in court to seek their remand to judicial custody.

The arrests come after the Supreme Court set aside the bail granted to Darshan and others by a lower court in connection with the murder of Renukaswamy, a resident of Chitradurga, whose death in June sparked massive public attention and controversy in Karnataka.
