New Delhi, Aug 15: Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated the 79th Independence Day with his iconic style, donning a saffron turban as he addressed the nation for the 12th consecutive year from the historic Red Fort.

For the occasion, PM Modi paired a crisp white kurta and churidar with a saffron bandhgala jacket, accessorised with a tricolour stole, reflecting both elegance and patriotism.

His Independence Day turbans have become a visual signature over the years, blending tradition with symbolism. Last year, he wore a vibrant Rajasthani leheriya turban in shades of orange, yellow, and green, highlighting India’s rich cultural heritage.

In 2023, the Prime Minister chose a bandhani print turban in yellow, green, and red, complemented by a black V-neck jacket. In 2022, he sported a saffron turban with red motifs and a flowing tail, paired with a blue jacket and stole.

During 2021, a cream-and-saffron turban accentuated his half-sleeved kurta, while in 2020, amidst the pandemic, he adapted with a white scarf edged in saffron, doubling as a protective face covering.

PM Modi’s choice of turban each year continues to merge tradition, patriotism, and style, becoming a closely watched feature of his Independence Day celebrations.
