Landslide in Mumbai’s Vikhroli kills two, injures two

Mumbai, Aug 16: Two people died and two others were injured after a landslide struck a hut in Vikhroli in the early hours of Saturday. The incident occurred around 2:39 am at Jankalyan Society, Varsha Nagar, when soil and stones from a hillside collapsed onto the structure, Mumbai Fire Brigade officials said.

The hut, located on collector-owned land in a landslide-prone area, was buried under debris. Rescue teams pulled four people from the rubble and rushed them to Rajawadi Hospital. Shalu Mishra, 19, and Suresh Mishra, 50, were declared dead on arrival, while Aarti Mishra, 45, and Ruturaj Mishra, 20, are undergoing treatment in the trauma ward and are reported to be stable.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Mumbai and neighbouring Raigad district, warning of extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places on Saturday.
