Kyiv, Aug 17: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Saturday accused Russia of undermining peace efforts by refusing to agree to a ceasefire in the ongoing conflict.
“We see that Russia rebuffs numerous calls for a ceasefire and has not yet determined when it will stop the killing. This complicates the situation,” Zelensky said in a late-night social media post.
He added that Moscow’s unwillingness to halt strikes raises concerns about its long-term intentions. “If they lack the will to carry out a simple order to stop the strikes, it may take a lot of effort to get Russia to have the will to implement far greater — peaceful coexistence with its neighbors for decades,” Zelensky noted.
The war, now stretching beyond three years, continues to claim lives as international pressure mounts on Russia to end hostilities.
