Mangaluru/Udupi, Aug 18: Due to a depression formed over the Bay of Bengal and the forecast of heavy rainfall, a holiday has been declared for all anganwadi centers, primary and high schools, government-aided, and private educational institutions in Dakshina Kannada (DK) district on Monday August 18.
Parents are asked to ensure that children do not go to low lying areas, lakes, sea shore and river sides. The fishermen too have been warned against venturing into water. Taluk level officers have been asked to remain at the headquarters compulsorily. Nodal officers appointed for various positions by the district administration have been asked to be alert and respond to public complaints. The tahsildar have been directed to be in constant contact.

As a precautionary measure, both residents and tourists are strictly prohibited from approaching beaches, rivers, and waterfalls and are advised against taking photos and videos in these areas.

Similarly, Udupi deputy commissioner Swaroopa TK has announced a holiday for all Anganwadi centers, primary and high schools, PU colleges, and ITI institutions in the district. Udupi has been witnessing heavy rainfall since Sunday, and a red alert has been issued for the next five days.
