Haryana, Aug 19: The journey of Dr Shena Agarwal is an inspiring tale of determination and purpose. Born and raised in Yamunanagar, Haryana, Shena excelled academically from a young age, securing 95% in her class 10 and 92% in class 12 CBSE examinations. She later topped the CBSE pre-medical test in 2004 and went on to graduate from AIIMS, New Delhi, in 2009.

Although surrounded by doctors in her family, Shena chose to walk a different path. After completing her MBBS, she decided to pursue the civil services with the aim of improving living conditions in rural India. Her UPSC journey was not easy — she secured AIR 305 in 2010 but kept pushing forward. In her third attempt, she created history by topping the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2011 with All India Rank 1.

Today, Dr Shena Agarwal serves as special secretary, social security and women & child development. Over the years, she has also held significant roles, including additional commissioner of Ludhiana Municipal Corporation and additional deputy commissioner of the district. Her husband, Sanyam Aggarwal, is also in government service, posted as special secretary, agriculture and farmers’ welfare.

Dr Shena Agarwal’s story is a shining example of how courage, perseverance, and the will to serve society can transform one’s career and life.
