Puttur: Police nab chain snatching accused, recover property worth Rs 5.05 lac

Puttur, Aug 19: In a swift operation, the Uppinangady police arrested a chain snatching accused and recovered valuables worth Rs 5.05 lac, including gold ornaments and a stolen motorbike.

The arrested has been identified as Abdul Rehman (31), a resident of Aletty in Sullia.

The incident occurred on June 4 at Nellyadi, Padubettu, under Uppinangady police station limits, when two unidentified men on a bike snatched a gold chain from a woman’s neck. Following the complaint, Uppinangady police launched an investigation and apprehended Abdul Rehman from Nekkiladi, Puttur.

From the accused, police seized a gold chain valued at approximately Rs 4.54 lac and a Pulsar bike used in the crime. The total value of the recovered property is estimated at Rs 5.05 lac. Police further revealed that the bike had been reported stolen in a two-wheeler theft case registered at Vijayanagar police station, Mysuru.

The operation was carried out under the guidance of Arun Nagegowda, DySP of Puttur subdivision, and led by Uppinangady circle inspector Ravi B S, along with the station staff.
