Karkala, Aug 21: In a dramatic turn of events, supporters of Mahesh Shetty Thimarodi allegedly attempted to obstruct police officials while they were escorting him to Brahmavar for enquiry.

According to police, on Thursday, August 21, the accused Mahesh Shetty Thimarodi — linked to a complaint registered at Brahmavar police station — was being transported there following his arrest. While en route, a group of his supporters reportedly followed the police convoy despite being warned not to interfere.

Near Hosmar, under the jurisdiction of Karkala Rural police station, the supporters allegedly rammed their vehicle into the official car of the additional superintendent of police, Udupi district (Reg. No. KA20G0669), in an apparent attempt to prevent police from taking the accused to the station.

Following the incident, Karkala Rural police registered a fresh case under relevant legal sections.

The arrested supporters have been identified as Srujan L, Hitesh Shetty, and Sahan — all residents of Ujire. They were produced before court and remanded to judicial custody.

Police also seized the white Swift car (Reg. No. KA70M3048) allegedly used in the obstruction.

The case was registered following a complaint by Rajeev Kulal, alleging that Timarodi made derogatory remarks against B L Santhosh, the BJP’s national general secretary (organisation).
