New Delhi, Aug 22: Security arrangements at the Parliament came under sharp focus once again on Friday morning after a man managed to breach the premises by scaling a tree and jumping over the boundary wall.
The incident occurred around 6:30 am, when the intruder reportedly crossed over from the Rail Bhavan side and reached the Garuda Gate of the new Parliament building. Security personnel on duty immediately apprehended him and handed him over for questioning.
Officials confirmed that an investigation is underway. The intrusion comes close on the heels of the just-concluded monsoon session of Parliament, which was marred by repeated disruptions.
This is not the first such breach. Last year, a man in his early 20s had scaled the Parliament Annexe wall, while in December 2023, on the anniversary of the 2001 terror attack, six persons were arrested for creating chaos inside and outside the Lok Sabha by releasing gas canisters and raising slogans.
With yet another incident raising concerns, questions are being asked about the preparedness and effectiveness of the multi-layered security system deployed at the high-security complex.
