Udupi, Aug 25: Ahead of the historic Paryaya Mahotsava, Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna has urged Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to sanction a special grant of Rs 50 crore for the development of basic infrastructure in Udupi city.
The Paryaya Mahotsava of Sri Krishna Math, held once every two years, is celebrated with grandeur on the lines of a state festival, drawing lacs of devotees and visitors from across India and abroad.
The upcoming Paryaya will take place on January 17 and 18, 2026, when His Holiness Sri Vedavardhana Theertha Swamiji of Sri Shirur Math will ascend the Paryaya Peetha to take over the temple administration.

Highlighting the importance of the event as a part of Udupi district’s “temple tourism,” MLA Suvarna said that significant works such as road repairs, re-asphalting, cleanliness drives, illumination, and infrastructure upgrades were necessary to accommodate the large inflow of pilgrims.
He appealed to the chief minister to release Rs 50 crore as a special grant to ensure smooth preparations and to uphold the sanctity and grandeur of the Paryaya Mahotsava.
