Mangaluru: Mount Carmel students win laurels at various sports events

Mangaluru, Aug 27: Mount Carmel Central School, Mangaluru takes immense pride in celebrating the outstanding achievements of its students in various inter-school, district, state and national level sports events. With sheer dedication, discipline, and team spirit, the young sports stars have showcased their talents across basketball, chess, football, athletics and karate, bringing laurels to the school. Their remarkable performances not only reflect their hard work but also highlight the school’s commitment to nurturing sportsmanship and excellence.

The 15th James Naismith Cup-2025, a state level interschool and inter college basketball tournament was organised by the Mangalore Basketball Club affiliated to DK District Basketball Association on four days commencing from August 21 to 24. The junior boys’ team won the 1st place in U-14 boys category and the senior boys’ team secured the 3rd place in U-17 boys category.

The U-17 chess team of the school bagged the 3rd place at the AICS–DK Inter-school Chess Tournament “AGNOX–The Ultimate Chess Arena” held at St Agnes CBSE School, Bendore, Mangaluru on August 23.

In the 27th Independence Cup Football Tournament 2025 organised by DK District Football Association, Mangaluru affiliated to KSFA, Bengaluru, the girls’ team bagged the runner up position in the U-14 girls category.

At the DK District Junior Athletic Meet 2025 organised by Dakshina Kannada Athletics Association which was held on August 18 and 19 at Mangala Stadium, in the U-12 boys’ category, Shaydon Prinston Rego of grade VI secured the 3rd place in Triathlon-C comprising of (60mtr, 600 mtr and long jump); Ethan Marcus Pais of grade V secured 1st place in Triathlon–B (60mtrs, long jump and back throw) in U-12 boys’ category, and Johan Gladson of grade X bagged the 3rd place in the 600 mtr in U-16 boys’ category. These three students represented Khelo India Centre and are selected for the state level too.

At the 6th International Karate Championship held at Shivamogga on August 9 and 10, the students of the school have performed exceptionally well by securing a number of prizes. Royden Mekenzie Lobo of grade X won the 1st place in Kata and 2nd place in Kumite in U-13 to 14 category; Reegan Justin Martis of grade V secured 1st place in Kata and 1st place in Kumite in U-10 category; Daivik L Kotian of grade VIII bagged the 1st place in Kumite and 2nd place in Kata in U12-13 years category; Jassica Simran D'Souza of grade VIII secured the 1st place in Kata and the 3rd place in Kumite in U-14 years category; Vihaan Jaden Sequeira of grade V bagged the 1st place in Kumite and the 2nd place in Kata in U-10 years category; Vivaan A Shetty of grade VI won the 3rd place in the Kata in U-12 years category and Aadya Shetty of grade VI bagged the 1st place in Kata.
