Independence Day celebrated at BSKB Association, Gokul Sayan

Mumbai, Aug 27: The BSKB Association, Gokul Sayan, celebrated India’s Independence Day with flag hoisting, patriotic songs, and cultural programmes.

As part of the cultural segment, the Gopala Krishna Yakshagana Puppet Theatre, Kasaragod, presented Narakasura Vadhe and Garuda Garva Bhanga. Renowned theatre artiste Ahalya Ballal directed the play Manthare, while Geeta Herala staged a short skit Dhanyosmi Bharata featuring child artistes. Vidushi Sahana Bharadwaj directed the musical presentation Sakha, portraying the many facets of Lord Krishna, which received wide appreciation.

During the formal ceremony presided over by Dr Suresh S Rao, the “Gokul Kalashree” award, instituted in memory of Balachandra Rao’s parents, was presented to eminent theatre personality and versatile artiste Ahalya Ballal.

As part of the centenary celebrations, a reunion of non-resident members of Gokul was organised. Around seventy members participated in the two-day Independence Day and Krishna Janmashtami events. They also visited Ashraya, a senior citizens’ home in Nerul, where they interacted with residents and expressed appreciation for the facilities available there.
