Udupi, Feb 6: The former state minister Vasant Salian led the protest and symbolic highway road blockade in Tenka village, near here on Saturday February 4, opposing the flying ashes mound generated by power plant of UPCL dumped along low-lying areas on NH 66.

Vasant Salian also urged the resignation of MLA Lalaji R Mendon for his lapses in fulfilling his duties in the jurisdiction of Kaup legislative assembly constituency, whereby the heaps of flying ashes are dumped which is a health hazard for the general public and also farmers’ living nearby.

Meanwhile, a protest call was given by Vasant Salian, to picket in front of the office of Deputy Commissioner on Tuesday February 7, urging the district administration to instruct Navyug Constructions, road contractor who is engaged in broadening NH 66 to clear the ash mound that was dumped along the highway.

TP former member Navinchandra Shetty, VHP district vice president Prakash Shetty Padebettu, Nandikoor Jan Jagruti Samiti secretary Jayant Kumar, youth Congress leader Navin Shetty, Abdul Aziz Hejamady, Raita Sangh district secretary Sasidar Shetty Yellur, Kaup block Congress president Gangadar Suvarnademanded the resignation of district-in-charge minister Dr V S Acharya, who was accused of supporting UPCL.

JDS district president Gulam Mohammed block Congress secretary Rajesh Rao pangala, Yermal Jaya Poojary, Vittal Kotian, TP member Sumana Kishore and others were present at the occasion.

Jaya S Shetty compered the programme. Padubidri sub inspector Mahadev Shetty provided security at the location.
