Xinjiang, Aug 28: India’s junior boxing contingent delivered a standout performance at the ongoing ‘Belt and Road’ International Youth Boxing Gala in China, securing 26 semifinal spots and guaranteeing the same number of medals in the U-17 category.
A 58-member Indian delegation — comprising 20 boys, 20 girls, 12 coaches, 6 support staff, and 1 referee — is representing the country in this prestigious international U-17 training camp and tournament, being held in Urumqi and Yili, Xinjiang. All athletes were selected based on their performance in the 6th U-17 Junior National Boxing Championships 2025.
Boys Storm into Semifinals
Among the boys, Dhruv Kharb (46kg), Uday Singh (46kg), Falak (48kg), Piyush (50kg), Aditya (52kg), Udham Singh Raghav (54kg), Ashish (54kg), Devendra Chaudhary (75kg), Jaideep Singh Hanjra (80kg), and Loven Gulia (+80kg) booked their places in the semifinals with victories over tough competitors from China, Korea, Uzbekistan, and Kyrgyzstan.
Girls Dominate with Convincing Wins
On August 27, Indian junior girls showcased their dominance. Boxers like Khushi (46kg), Bhakti (50kg), Radhamani (60kg), Harsika (60kg), Diya (66kg), Priya (66kg), Laxmi (46kg), Chahat (60kg), Himanshi (66kg), Harnoor (66kg), and Prachi Khatri (+80kg) claimed emphatic wins, particularly against formidable opponents from China and Korea.
A Platform for Rising Talent
The strong showing in the semifinals highlights the depth of India's junior boxing talent and reflects the effectiveness of the country’s youth development programs. With medals now assured, the focus turns to converting semifinal spots into gold as the competition continues until August 29.
Senior Contingent Trains in UK
Meanwhile, the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) has sent a 27-member senior boxing squad to Sheffield, UK, for a high-intensity training camp. The goal is to acclimatise and prepare ahead of the World Boxing Championships, in line with BFI’s commitment to providing world-class exposure and conditioning to Indian boxers.
India’s rising boxing stars are clearly making their presence felt — both in the ring and on the global stage.
