Rajkot, Aug 29: A 29-year-old married man has been arrested for allegedly raping his 22-year-old sister at knifepoint on two occasions within six weeks, at their house in a village near Talaja town of Bhavnagar district.

According to police, the survivor contacted the women’s helpline 181 after the second incident, following which she was taken to Talaja police station on Wednesday and an FIR was registered against her brother.

Police sources said the woman had been in a romantic relationship with a youth from her village for the past three years, which the accused was aware of. He allegedly used this information to blackmail her. The accused, who works as a driver and is the father of one child, first committed the crime on July 13 when his wife was away visiting her parents. The second assault occurred on August 22, when his wife had gone out for some work.

The woman also told police that during the assault, her brother branded her thigh with a burning bidi.

Investigating officer D P Khambhla confirmed that the knife used in the crime, along with the clothes worn by the accused, have been seized. Both the survivor and the accused have undergone medical examinations, and statements have been recorded.

The accused has been booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) – 64(2)(F)(M) and 115(2)
