Servitor at Delhi’s Kalkaji temple beaten to death over ‘Prasad’; one arrested

New Delhi, Aug 30: A shocking incident was reported from Delhi’s Kalkaji temple where a 35-year-old servitor was beaten to death following a quarrel over ‘prasad’.

The deceased has been identified as Yogendra Singh, a native of Hardoi in Uttar Pradesh, who had been serving at the temple for the past 15 years.

According to police, the incident occurred on the evening of August 29, when a group of men, after completing their darshan, approached the servitor for prasad. The situation escalated into an argument, which soon turned violent. CCTV footage shows singh lying on the ground while at least three men repeatedly assaulted him with sticks and punches.

Singh was rushed to AIIMS Trauma Centre with severe injuries but succumbed during treatment.

Eyewitnesses caught hold of one of the attackers, identified as Atul Pandey (30), a resident of Dakshinpuri, and handed him over to the police. A case of murder has been registered, and efforts are on to trace the other accused, officials confirmed.
