New Delhi, Aug 31: In a shocking case of domestic violence, a man in Delhi’s Rohini has been arrested for allegedly murdering his wife and mother-in-law following a quarrel over gifts exchanged during his son’s birthday celebrations.
Police said a PCR call was received at 3:50 pm on Saturday at KNK Marg Police Station about the murder of two women in Sector-17, Rohini. On reaching the spot, the bodies of Kusum Sinha (63) and her daughter Priya Sehgal (34) were found lying in a room.

According to investigators, the dispute erupted on August 28 during the birthday celebration of Priya’s son, Chirag. A disagreement over the gifts exchanged soon turned into a heated argument between Priya and her husband, Yogesh Sehgal, who is unemployed. Kusum decided to stay back at her daughter’s home to mediate and resolve the matter.
When Kusum’s son, Megh Sinha, could not reach her over phone two days later, he rushed to Priya’s flat. He found the door locked from outside with blood stains visible near it. After breaking open the lock, he discovered the two women lying in a pool of blood.
Police arrested Yogesh soon after, recovering his blood-stained clothes and a pair of scissors allegedly used in the crime. “The motive appears to be a domestic dispute,” a senior officer said. The couple’s children were also taken away by Yogesh after the murders, but were later traced safely.
Forensic and crime teams inspected the scene. Further investigation is underway.
Priya’s brother Himalaya expressed shock over the brutal act. “My mother had gone there only to resolve the fight. We kept calling them but got no response. When we finally entered, both were lying soaked in blood. Who does this? Fights happen in every marriage, but killing your wife and mother-in-law is inhuman,” he said.
