Mangaluru: St Agnes College (Autonomous) celebrates Librarians Day

Mangaluru, Sep 1: St Agnes College (Autonomous) celebrated Librarians’ Day on August 21 in honor of Padmashree Dr S R Ranganathan, the father of Library Science in India. The programme featured a symposium titled ‘Cite Right, Review Smart: Symposium on Research Tools’, focusing on empowering researchers with digital tools and best practices in literature review and citation management.

The event was presided over by Sr Dr Venissa AC, principal, who underscored the centrality of research to campus life. She remarked, “Research is the heartbeat of academic growth. Proper citation ensures academic integrity, and ‘reviewing smart’ through systematic searching makes one's research more impactful.” She also affirmed the college’s commitment to strengthening research mentoring.

Three enriching sessions were delivered by the distinguished resource persons:

Dr Supritha Shetty, librarian, K S Hegde Medical Academy, Nitte, on ‘Digital Research Matrix for Systematic Literature Review’

Dr Mamatha Pramod Kumar, assistant professor, department of the Library and Information Centre, Yenepoya Deemed to be University, on ‘Systematic Literature Review Made Simple’

Dr Janet Dorothy Lobo, librarian, chief librarian, Father Muller Medical College, Mangaluru, on ‘Smart Referencing Software for Systematic Literature Review’

A prize distribution ceremony was held to recognize the winners of the book review video competition.

In the postgraduate category, Deepthi B (I M A English) and Naksha (II M Sc Psychology) won the first prize, Ahsayad (II M Sc Big Data Analytics) won the second prize and Pooja S S (I MBA) won with the third prize.

In the undergraduate category, J V Jaffrin (II BA) won the first prize, Mahima Sharon (III BSc) won the second prize. The third prize was shared by C T Dejamma (III BCom) and Sushmitha (I BCA). 15 participants were acknowledged with consolation prizes.

Dr Vishala B K, chief librarian, welcomed the gathering, and Avil D’Souza, librarian, proposed a vote of thanks.

Sr Carmel Rita AC, administrator, and Sr Dr Vinora AC, coordinator, PG Study Centre, were present.

Ananya Madhu, III BCom., the college student president and Jobi Thomas John, II year MSc psychology student, compered the programme, Deepthi and her team from the PG department led the prayer session.
