New Delhi, Sept 2: As political tensions escalate over Rahul Gandhi’s recent “vote chori” claims, BJP MP Praveen Khandelwal on Tuesday demanded a formal investigation into allegations that Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera holds two active voter ID numbers. He called on the Election Commission of India (ECI) to intervene and ensure full transparency.
Speaking to reporters, Khandelwal said, “If such things have come to light, then there must be a proper investigation. The ECI should look into the matter and ensure transparency.”
The remarks came in response to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's warning of a major revelation, which he described as a political "hydrogen bomb" of alleged voter fraud. Khandelwal dismissed the statement as bluster, saying, “Rahul Gandhi is making grand statements about vote theft and promising explosive revelations, but he himself doesn’t seem to know what he’s saying. He has made such claims before, none of which materialised. I believe this will also flop — just like his leadership has.”

He accused the Opposition of intentionally sowing distrust in public institutions and attempting to delegitimise the electoral process. “The ECI is functioning within its constitutional framework. The opposition keeps crying foul because they know the NDA is set to return to power. Even the Supreme Court has commented on related matters. It’s time for political parties to stop provoking the public and focus on reforming themselves,” Khandelwal added.
On the unrelated issue of flood risks in Delhi and the NCR, Khandelwal voiced confidence in the Delhi government’s disaster preparedness. “The Delhi government has taken timely measures. Relief camps have been set up, and emergency protocols are in place. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta is personally monitoring the situation. There’s no need to panic; the government has made excellent arrangements and continues to monitor developments round-the-clock,” he said.
Khandelwal also weighed in on the ongoing debate over illegal migrants in the capital, taking a hardline stance. “Those living illegally in this country cannot be treated as legal residents. Intruders must leave. They consume the resources meant for our citizens. No responsible government will tolerate this,” he told.
As the election season intensifies, BJP leaders are rallying behind the ECI and countering opposition narratives, signaling a robust political showdown in the months ahead.
