Bantwal, Sept 4: Richard Costa M, president of the Bantwal Advocates’ Association, has been unanimously elected as the president of the newly formed Dakshina Kannada District Bar Association.
The election took place during a consultative meeting held at Hotel Krishnima, B C Road, Mangaluru, under the chairmanship of H V Raghavendra, president of the Mangaluru Advocates’ Association.
Office-bearers from advocates’ associations across six taluks of Dakshina Kannada district convened to discuss the formation and structure of the new district body. Following consensus on its objectives, the association was officially constituted with unanimous approval of its leadership.

The Dakshina Kannada District Bar Association aims to address the collective needs and challenges faced by advocates across the district. The association will also actively support the movement to establish a permanent circuit bench of the High Court in Mangaluru.
Alongside Richard Costa, the newly appointed office-bearers include vice presidents H V Raghavendra (Mangaluru), Sukumar (Sullia), Vasanth Marakada (Belthangady), Jagannath Rai G (Puttur), and Harish P U (Moodbidri). Jayaprakash Bhandary (Moodbidri) was named general secretary, Naveen B K (Belthangady) joint secretary, and Jesintha Crasta (Bantwal) treasurer. All taluk association office-bearers have been made members of the executive committee.
The establishment of this district bar association marks a significant step towards unified legal advocacy and stronger representation for lawyers throughout Dakshina Kannada.
