Mob kills woman, injures husband over witchcraft suspicion in UP

Sonbhadra, Sep 5: In a shocking incident, a 52-year-old woman was brutally killed while her husband was left seriously injured after being attacked by villagers on suspicion of practicing witchcraft in Uttar Pradesh’s Sonbhadra district, police said on Thursday.

The incident took place in Parsoyi village under Obra Police Station limits late Thursday evening. According to police, Baboolal Kharwar (57) and his wife Rajwanti were at home when a villager, Gulab, along with others, barged in accusing the couple of performing witchcraft. The mob then attacked them with sharp-edged weapons.

Rajwanti died on the spot, while Baboolal sustained critical injuries and is undergoing treatment.

Additional Superintendent of Police Anil Kumar confirmed that prime accused Gulab has been arrested in connection with the killing.
