New Delhi, Sep 6: In a daring theft at the Red Fort, two golden ‘kalash’ and other valuables worth around Rs 1.5 cr were stolen from a Jain religious ceremony, police said. CCTV footage shows the thief disguised as a Jain priest making away with the sacred items during the ongoing Daslakshan Mahaparv at August 15 Park.

The stolen items included a large golden ‘jhari’ and a gold coconut weighing 760 grams, along with a smaller 115-gram gold ‘jhari’ studded with diamonds, emeralds, and rubies. Businessman Sudhir Jain, who brought the items daily for rituals, said the kalash holds immense sentimental value.

Police have identified the suspect and assured that arrest is imminent. Puneet Jain claimed the thief had previously attempted similar thefts at three temples.

The 10-day festival, which had Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla as a special guest on Tuesday, will continue till September 9.
