Kolkata, Sep 9: In a shocking incident, police recovered the body of a 43-year-old woman from her home in Gobardanga, North 24 Parganas district, on Tuesday. The deceased, identified as Mithu Dutta, was found wrapped in a blanket and hidden under her bed, with severe head injuries.

According to police, Mithu had been living with her two sons since her husband went missing about ten years ago. A few years later, her brother-in-law, who had abandoned his own family, also moved in with them.

Last Thursday, Mithu reportedly went missing. Despite her sons searching for her, she could not be traced. On Tuesday morning, the boys noticed a foul smell from their mother’s room and alerted the Gobardanga police station. Officers arrived and discovered the body concealed under the bed.

“The head was smashed with a heavy object. The body has been sent for post-mortem. We are questioning her sons and brother-in-law,” a senior district police officer said.

Police suspect that someone close to her may have been involved in the crime, as no outsiders were seen entering the house. Investigations are ongoing.
