Jalandhar, Sep 10: In a dramatic incident on the Jalandhar–Ludhiana highway near Jalandhar bypass, a woman displayed remarkable courage after three miscreants in an auto-rickshaw attempted to rob her. The victim clung to the moving vehicle for nearly 500 metres before the auto overturned, leading to the arrest of two of the accused.
According to police, the victim, Meena Kumari, had boarded the auto from Jalandhar bypass to catch a bus for Nawanshahr. On the way, one of the men stopped the vehicle on the pretext of using the toilet and soon after, the trio forcibly shifted her to the middle seat. They brandished sharp weapons and tried to tie her hands with her dupatta.

Sensing danger, Meena resisted fiercely, clinging to the moving auto and crying for help. A car driver trailing the vehicle captured the entire ordeal on video, which has since gone viral. Another motorist tried to block the auto, but the suspects rammed into two cars before losing control.
The auto overturned, and locals managed to nab two suspects – Mohit of Subhash Nagar and Dimple, residing near AR Model School. They were handed over to the police. The third accused, Shubham of Subhash Nagar, remains absconding. Police confirmed Mohit’s criminal background, revealing his involvement in three earlier cases.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (City/Rural) Rupinder Singh briefed the media on Tuesday, commending the victim’s bravery and confirming that efforts are underway to trace the absconding accused.
