Political row clouds Delhi Durga Puja festivities

Daijiworld Media Network – Delhi

Delhi, Sep 10: Delhi’s Durga Puja celebrations are set to begin amid a political tug-of-war between the ruling BJP and opposition AAP. Senior AAP leader Saurabh Bhardwaj alleged that Chief Minister Rekha Gupta asked organisers to place Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s photos in pandals, calling it “blasphemy.”

The BJP retaliated, accusing AAP of placing party chief Arvind Kejriwal’s photos during Chhath Puja and vowed to run a “Seva Pakhwada” from September 17 to October 2 on Modi’s birthday.

Bhardwaj’s post on X questioned whether the Bengali community would be forced to worship PM Modi alongside Maa Durga, adding that the move “deeply angered” the community. The row echoes past controversies in Bengal, where political figures occasionally appeared in festive pandals, stirring debates over faith and politics.
