Mangaluru, Sep 11: The district Congress will stage a protest against the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) at Nanthoor on September 12 for failing to maintain roads, which have caused injuries and claimed lives due to potholes, informed district Congress president Harish Kumar.

He said that soon after the protest, party leaders will visit the NHAI office and submit an appeal seeking urgent repair of potholes on the national highway.

Harish Kumar also questioned BJP leaders C T Ravi, Ashok and Vijayendra for failing to raise their voice over the death of Madhavi at Kulur and for not demanding compensation for the deceased woman.

Commenting on the law-and-order situation, he said Dakshina Kannada district has returned to peace after strict enforcement of the law. “The district was once rocked by a series of murders and illegal activities. The SP and police commissioner have brought the situation under control by curbing provocative remarks, drugs, gambling, matka rackets and other illegal activities,” he said.

He further stated that law is equal for all and noted that Ganeshotsava celebrations were held peacefully. “Police have taken action against those who failed to obtain prior permission for using mics and sound boxes. We welcome the ban on DJs as they have a severe impact on health, and the police should continue taking action. The district in-charge minister will soon visit the district and conduct a meeting regarding issues created during the implementation of the law,” he added.

On GST, Harish Kumar welcomed the central government’s move to reduce rates but termed it a Congress vision. “This is a victory for Rahul Gandhi’s voice, who consistently protested against the rise in GST,” he said.

Congress leaders Sahul Hameed, Shashidhar Hegde, Sadashiv Ullal and others were present.
