Chia microgreens outshine chia seeds in nutrition, says expert

New Delhi, Sep 14: Want to supercharge your diet? Nutritionist Rashi Chowdhary is calling attention to chia microgreens, a home-grown superfood she says packs up to 17 times more nutrients than chia seeds and even rivals a multivitamin.

In an Instagram video, Chowdhary explains that germination boosts vitamin C, iron, zinc and calcium absorption, making chia microgreens “far more bioavailable” than the seeds. She notes they can have 10 times more antioxidants than blueberries, 3 times more iron, and double the magnesium of regular chia seeds.

Chia seeds are already celebrated for fibre, omega-3s, and minerals that aid digestion, regulate blood sugar, and support heart health. But Chowdhary says sprouting them takes nutrition to another level and can play a role in gut health and overall wellness.

Growing chia microgreens is simple: fill a small pot with soil, sprinkle chia seeds, water daily, and harvest when the shoots reach about an inch—usually within 5–10 days depending on climate.

Chowdhary enjoys adding the tiny greens to eggs, green juice and even everyday sabzis. “They’re pretty much everywhere,” she says, encouraging health-conscious eaters to give this nutrient-packed microgreen a try.
