Guwahati, Sep 14: Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a scathing political attack on the Congress during public rallies in Assam’s Darrang and Golaghat districts on Sunday, accusing the opposition party of compromising national security, promoting infiltration, and abandoning the Northeast during critical moments in India’s history.
Speaking at a high-voltage rally in Darrang, the Prime Minister accused the Congress of echoing Pakistan’s propaganda during key anti-terror operations, particularly Operation Sindoor, and undermining the morale of the Indian Armed Forces.
"When Pakistan lost its terror masterminds, Congress stood with the Pakistani Army rather than backing our brave soldiers. They weakened the nation's fight against terrorism," PM Modi told the gathering. He claimed that Congress leaders routinely amplified narratives that aligned with Pakistan’s position rather than supporting Indian interests.

Modi didn’t stop there. He invoked historical wounds, referencing former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru’s handling of the 1962 Indo-China war. "During the Chinese aggression, Congress abandoned Assam and the entire Northeast. The people here were left to fend for themselves while the central leadership looked the other way," he said, adding that the “betrayal” still resonates in the collective memory of Assam.
Accusing Congress of continuing the same “mindset”, PM Modi said the party protects infiltrators and anti-national elements while ignoring the legitimate rights of the indigenous people. “Instead of ensuring national security, they opted for vote bank politics,” he said.
At another event in Golaghat district, where he inaugurated several development projects, the Prime Minister extended his attack by pointing out the demographic changes in Assam caused by unchecked infiltration. “Congress ruled Assam for decades but failed to bring any real development. Instead, they provided safe havens to infiltrators, altering the identity and fabric of the region,” he charged.
In contrast, PM Modi praised the BJP government in Assam for taking bold measures to safeguard indigenous communities. He highlighted the distribution of land pattas to Scheduled Tribes as a key step toward protecting the rights of the state’s original inhabitants. “Our goal is clear: a secure, developed, and infiltrator-free Assam,” he declared.
The twin rallies set the tone for the BJP’s aggressive narrative ahead of the upcoming elections, with national security, regional pride, and anti-infiltration measures emerging as central themes in the party’s pitch to voters in the Northeast.
