Ranchi woman miraculously escapes wall collapse amid heavy rain

Ranchi, Sep 16: A woman had a narrow escape in Jharkhand’s capital, Ranchi, on Monday evening when a wall collapsed near her amid heavy rainfall, with the incident captured on a viral video.

In the footage, the woman is seen carefully walking through a waterlogged alley when a wall on her right suddenly topples. She instinctively steps back, pauses to process the danger, and then safely crosses the area. Netizens hailed her escape as sheer luck.

Ranchi and several other parts of Jharkhand have been experiencing heavy rainfall in recent days. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places over North-Central and adjoining North-Western regions of the state, along with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds. Ranchi recorded 40.8 mm of rainfall in 24 hours from 8:30 am on Sunday, according to weather officials.

Between June 1 and September 15, Jharkhand recorded 20% above normal rainfall, receiving 1,100.5 mm against the usual 920.8 mm, PTI reported. East Singhbhum had the highest surplus at 59%, followed by Seraikela Kharswan at 53%, and Ranchi at 49%.

Conversely, Pakur district recorded a 26% rainfall deficit during the same period.

Authorities have advised residents to remain cautious as the monsoon continues to affect the state.
