Mangaluru: Man convicted in house lease cheating case, ordered to pay Rs 14 lac compensation

Mangaluru, Sep 19: The 5th JMFC court here has convicted a man in a cheating case involving a house lease agreement and ordered him to pay Rs 14 lac as compensation to the complainant.

The accused, identified as Kishore R Bhandary, had collected Rs 9 lac from complainant Kamalaksha Shet on the pretext of leasing a house. However, he neither provided the house nor refunded the money despite repeated requests.

When pressed for repayment, Kishore issued cheques which were dishonoured upon presentation. Even after receiving a legal notice, he failed to return the amount.

Subsequently, the complainant approached the court. After examining the evidence, Judge Chirag C of the 5th JMFC Court held the accused guilty and directed him to pay Rs 14 lac, including the principal amount and fine, to Kamalaksha Shet. In case of default, Kishore will have to undergo six months of imprisonment.

The complainant was represented by advocate N Balakrishna Sharma.
