Gaza, Sep 20: Humanitarian aid trucks carrying baby formula and therapeutic food for malnourished children in Gaza were robbed by armed groups, according to UNICEF and Israel’s Coordination of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT).
UNICEF stated that four trucks outside their Gaza City compound were commandeered at gunpoint while preparing to deliver Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF). The stolen supplies were meant for at least 2,700 severely malnourished children, now left without critical nutrition amid famine and ongoing military operations.
“The theft has denied life-saving food to children at the most vulnerable time,” UNICEF said, urging respect for humanitarian aid and international law.
COGAT accused Hamas of orchestrating the robbery and criticized the UN for not explicitly naming the group responsible. The incident highlights the urgent need for a sustainable ceasefire to ensure aid reaches children safely.
Displaced families, fleeing northern Gaza due to the military operation, continue to face mounting hardship, underscoring the critical humanitarian crisis in the region.
