Ranchi, Sep 22: Ranchi District Court on Monday delivered its verdict in the high-profile murder case of Kamal Bhushan, a well-known builder and land dealer, sentencing three accused to life imprisonment. Additional Judge Anand Prakash found Rahul Kujur, his father W. Kujur, and their associate Kavish Adnan guilty of murder under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code.
Two others—Rahul’s mother Sushila Kujur and approver Munawar Afaq—were acquitted due to insufficient evidence.
The murder occurred on May 30, 2022, when 55-year-old Kamal Bhushan was shot dead in broad daylight near his home in Ranchi’s bustling Ratu Road area, sending shockwaves across the city.

Investigations uncovered a bitter family conflict as the motive. Bhushan’s daughter had married Rahul Kujur against the family’s wishes, igniting tension between the father and son-in-law. Property and financial disputes further strained relations.
Police revealed that Rahul, eager to control his wife’s family wealth and fearing retaliation from his influential father-in-law, conspired with Kavish Adnan to kill Bhushan. On the day of the crime, Rahul’s father W. Kujur tracked Bhushan’s movements, enabling Rahul and Kavish to ambush and fatally shoot him outside his home.
Following the murder, the trio fled to their residence in the Ratu police station area, where they hid the weapons.
Five individuals were arrested—Rahul Kujur, W. Kujur, Kavish Adnan, Sushila Kujur, and Munawar Afaq. While the first three were convicted, the court found no conclusive evidence against Sushila and Munawar, resulting in their acquittal.
At the time of the arrests, Ranchi SSP Surendra Kumar Jha had described the killing as rooted in financial disagreements and Bhushan’s opposition to his daughter’s marriage to Rahul.
