Mangaluru, Sep 23: Highway patrol police and local youths won public appreciation after swiftly clearing a large quantity of gravel that had spilled onto National Highway 66 at the Surathkal junction from a truck transporting jelly stones, thereby preventing several possible accidents.

Head constable Mahantesh Kilari (HC 421) and driver Anand Meti (APC 2542), who were on highway patrol duty, noticed the huge amount of gravel strewn across the road and immediately took action. They alerted 5–6 youths working in nearby shops about the potential danger and sought their help to remove the debris.

Together, the police and the youths collected the gravel, which had spread across nearly 100 meters of the highway and was estimated to be around 10 baskets in volume. Later, a vehicle from the National Highways Authority was called in to load and transport the gravel away.

By responding promptly and preventing a potential disaster, the highway patrol staff and local youths displayed commendable alertness, drawing praise from the public.
