Chennai, Feb 10 (IANS): DMK president M. Karunanidhi Thursday slammed BJP for trying to "help" Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa to come out of the disproportionate wealth case being heard in a Bangalore court by exerting pressure on Karnataka's Advocate General and the Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) B.V.Acharya.
In a statement issued here, Karunanidhi said the BJP and the Karnataka government were trying to remove Acharya from the SPP post to help Jayalalithaa.
Citing Acharya's comments to the media, Karunanidhi said the BJP and the Karnataka government acted in support of Jayalalithaa and the former preferred to resign as Advocate General than quitting as SPP in the case against Jayalalithaa.
Referring to Acharya's comments to the media, Karunanidhi said the former has said that he resigned as Advocate General as he was pressurised to quit as SPP.
Karunanidhi recalled BJP's senior leader L.K.Advani's recent address in a function here that AIADMK is a "natural ally of BJP" in support of his views.
On Wednesday, Acharya resigned as Karnataka's Advocate General saying that he was pressurised to quit the SPP post on the ground that he cannot hold two positions - Advocate General and SPP.
