Karkala: Rovers & Rangers reorientation workshop held at Christ King PU College

Karkala, Sep 24: A one-day reorientation workshop was organized for the members of the Rovers and Rangers unit of Christ King Pre-University College, Karkala.

The workshop was inaugurated by lighting the lamp by Jayakar Shetty Indrali, district chief commissioner of Bharat Scouts and Guides, Udupi. Speaking on the occasion, he said, “We must reflect on what we give back to nature and society from which we take everything. Organizations like scouts and guides provide us with an opportunity to give back. Rover and Ranger units help children develop skills and nurture a positive personality.”

Chief guest Dr Gananath Ekkaru, district head of Bharat Scouts and Guides, Udupi, addressed the gathering and said, “Social service should become an integral part of our lives. Students must cultivate the spirit of service and grow into socially responsible individuals.”

Jyoti Pai, Udupi district guides commissioner, said, “Children should never forget their parents, teachers, and motherland. Organizations like the Guides teach us selflessness. More and more students should take part in such activities.”

Savithri Manohar, vice-president of Karkala Local Bodies, inspired the students by singing Scout and Guide songs.

Presiding over the event, the college principal, Lakshminarayana Kamath, said, “Along with academics, students should participate in at least one extracurricular activity. Activities like Rovers and Rangers are very helpful to move away from mobile and social media distractions and to strengthen our physical fitness.”

Assistant district commissioner of Scouts, Udupi, Vithesh Kanchan, served as the resource person and conducted the day-long training session of the reorientation workshop.

Economics lecturer and Ranger leader Abhinaya welcomed the gathering. Physical education director and Rover Scout leader Krishnaprasad gave an introductory note. Lecturer Umesh Bellippady compered the programme.

The college vice-principal Dr Prakash Bhat, Primary School headmaster Rudolf Kishore Lobo, and administrator Kiran Crasta were present on the occasion.
