Karur, Sep 25: A fresh rift has emerged in the DMK-Congress alliance in Tamil Nadu, with Congress MP Jothimani accusing DMK district secretary and former minister V Senthil Balaji of disrespecting her party.
The controversy began after Senthil Balaji posted on X (formerly Twitter) that “Karur Mahila Congress chief Kavitha” had joined the DMK. The claim angered women’s cell chief M Hazeena Syed, who clarified that the person mentioned was not an office-bearer of the Congress unit. Balaji later deleted the post, but Jothimani shared a screenshot, condemning the act.

“Alliance dharma should be followed by both sides. How can we accept a DMK district secretary insulting the Congress in public? We will never tolerate such disrespect,” Jothimani said, urging state Congress chief Selvaperunthagai and DMK chief and Chief Minister M K Stalin to intervene.
This is not the first clash between Jothimani and Senthil Balaji over Karur administration matters. The AIADMK seized on the spat, with party chief Edappadi K Palaniswami claiming it signalled a rift within the DMK-Congress alliance as some Congress functionaries demand a power-sharing arrangement.
The DMK has not officially responded to Jothimani’s remarks and has dismissed AIADMK’s allegations, maintaining that the alliance remains intact.
