Vizag, Sep 25: Coromandel International, a leading Indian agri-solutions provider and part of the Rs 78,000-crore Murugappa Group, has signed an agreement with Veolia Water Technologies and Solutions (India) to expand its seawater desalination capacity from 6 million litres per day (MLD) to 9 MLD at its Vizag facility.
The expansion follows the commissioning of Coromandel’s 6 MLD plant in 2023, which aimed to reduce dependence on surface water and enhance operational resilience. Under the build-own-operate (BOO) model, Coromandel will provide infrastructure support while Veolia contributes its global expertise in water treatment technology and operations. Veolia will continue to operate the upgraded facility, ensuring long-term efficiency and sustainability.
Once operational, the enhanced plant will meet 60–70% of Coromandel’s total water requirement at Vizag, significantly reducing reliance on external sources and strengthening the company’s water resilience.
“Coromandel and Veolia’s partnership reflects a shared vision of sustainable transformation in industrial ecosystems. This initiative further strengthens Coromandel’s leadership in responsible manufacturing and reaffirms our commitment to environmental stewardship and efficient resource management,” said S Sankarasubramanian, managing director and CEO, Coromandel International.
The move aligns with Coromandel’s broader environmental vision to combine business growth with sustainable infrastructure, safeguarding operations against future water scarcity and setting benchmarks for sustainable practices in India’s agri-input and manufacturing sectors.
