Kundapur, Sep 26: A tragic incident occurred on Wednesday near Chamadi Kaeleri in Beluru village, where a farm worker slipped and fell into a rain-filled stream while engaged in coconut harvesting work and lost his life. His body was recovered from a stream on Thursday.

The deceased has been identified as Sharath (32), a resident of Achchadi Ambedkar Colony. He is survived by his mother and sister.

On Wednesday, Sharath had gone to work in a coconut plantation at Achchadi along with a contractor near his house. While harvesting coconuts and loading them into a tempo, he suddenly went missing. Despite extensive searches, he could not be traced on Wednesday. On Thursday afternoon, his body was recovered from a stream near Kaeleri. Heavy rains on Wednesday had caused the stream to overflow. The nearby roads had also become muddy and unfit for movement. It is believed that while carrying coconuts to the tempo, Sharath slipped and fell into the stream unnoticed and drowned.

Since the plantation was located close to a rivulet, search operations were carried out there until late Wednesday night and continued until Thursday when his body was finally found. Efforts were made by Eshwar Malpe, the fire brigade team, and local volunteers including Nagaraj Jeevan Mitra, who extended support in the search operation.

Kota police, led by sub-inspector Praveen Kumar, ASI Ravi Kumar, and staff, visited the spot, conducted an inspection, and registered a case.

Sharath, who had lost his father a few years ago, had recently married off his sister and was the sole breadwinner supporting his mother. His untimely death has left the family in deep distress.
