Mangaluru, Sep 26: The department of Tulu, School of Languages and Cultural Studies, St Aloysius (Deemed to be University) in association with Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy organised a one-day Tulu national seminar on "Tulu Baravu Baaseda Paripu" on September 23 in Robert Sequeira Hall.
Dr Indira Hegde, eminent Tulu writer and scholar, was the chief guest. Tharanath Gatti Kapikad, president of Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy was the guest of honour. Dr Praveen Martis, SJ, VC of St Aloysius University presided over the programme, Dr Alwyn D’Sa registrar of the College, Dr Chandra Shekhar Shetty T, director of research and development cell and Prashanthi Shetty, HoD of Tulu were on the dais.




Dr Praveen Martis, in his speech spoke about the important of regional languages and urged the participants to promote Tulu language and culture to uphold its traditions. He also advised the students to bring more literature work in Tulu language.
Dr Indira Hegde in her speech congratulated the Tulu department for organising such a wonderful programme. She narrated her journey as a writer and scholar in Kannada and Tulu languages.
She spoke about Tuluva Shasana which was established in ancient times. The development of Tulu language is most important to preserve such its cultural and traditional heritage.
Prashanthi Shetty welcomed the gathering and briefed about the seminar. Dr Dinesh Nayak compered the programme.
During the programme, there were three sessions by Dr Radhakrishna Bellur, professor, Kannur University, Kerala, Dr MS Durgapraveena, assistant professor, department of Kannada language and translation study, Dravida University, Kuppam, Andhrapradesh and Prashanthi Shetty Iruvailu, assistant professor, St Aloysius (Deemed to be University), Mangaluru. Dr N Damodara Shetty, former professor of Kananda, St Aloysius College (Autonomous), Mangaluru was the moderator.
