WB influencer arrested for derogatory remarks against Indian Armed Forces

Kolkata, Sep 27: A social media influencer from Aranghata in West Bengal’s Nadia district, identified as Biswajit Biswas, was arrested late Friday night for making derogatory remarks against the Indian Armed Forces across various online platforms. According to local police, Biswas, who had gained notoriety for his online presence, routinely posted objectionable content targeting the armed forces and even went live on Facebook to voice abusive and inflammatory comments.

The arrest came after several complaints were lodged by both his neighbours and acquaintances on social media, who were disturbed by the repeated offensive content. Authorities said that during questioning, Biswas was unable to provide a clear motive behind his hostility toward the armed forces. His statements were described as baseless and lacking any tangible justification.

Police presented Biswas in a district court on Saturday, where he reportedly issued a profuse apology for his actions. However, officials remain puzzled as to why he chose to use his online influence to spread such derogatory commentary, especially in the absence of any personal provocation or known affiliations.

Local sentiment in Aranghata has turned sharply against Biswas, with many residents expressing dismay over his conduct. “People here are shocked and disappointed,” said a district police officer. “This was completely unprovoked and unjustified.”

Authorities confirmed that Biswas's posts violated several provisions related to public order and national integrity, and legal proceedings are now underway. This incident echoes similar cases earlier this year during Operation Sindoor, when other individuals in West Bengal were arrested for making defamatory remarks against the Indian Army.

The police reiterated that any attempt to malign the reputation of the armed forces would be dealt with seriously, especially on platforms with wide public reach like social media.
