New Delhi, Sep 28: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday called on citizens to deepen their commitment to self-reliance by embracing Swadeshi products, especially during the festive season. Speaking during the 126th episode of his monthly radio programme Mann Ki Baat, he encouraged the nation to adopt "Vocal for Local" as more than a slogan—turning it into a conscious shopping choice.
“With a series of festivals ahead, our shopping lists are bound to grow,” said PM Modi. “But this time, let’s turn our spending into a celebration of Indian enterprise. Take a pledge to support only Indian-made products. When you bring home something made by local hands, you're not just purchasing an item—you're uplifting a family, recognizing an artisan’s craft, and fuelling the ambition of a young entrepreneur.”

He also pointed out the ongoing GST Bachat Utsav as an added incentive, saying it’s an ideal opportunity to make festive purchases more meaningful by choosing locally made goods.
The Prime Minister emphasized that true self-reliance (Atmanirbharta) is possible only when citizens actively support domestic industries. “Swadeshi is the path to Atmanirbharta. Our festivals can be a force for economic transformation if we make intentional choices.”
In addition to economic self-reliance, PM Modi underlined the need for collective responsibility in maintaining cleanliness during the festival period. “Festivals begin with cleaning our homes, but why stop there? Let’s extend that effort to our streets, markets, neighbourhoods, and villages. Cleanliness should be a shared commitment,” he urged.
As Diwali approaches, he concluded with a dual message: celebrate joyfully, but with purpose. “Let this Diwali not only light up our homes but also illuminate the path toward a self-reliant India.”
