Bhind, Sep 30: In a tragic road accident that has shaken the local community, five people, including a family of four and a diver, were killed on Tuesday when a speeding container truck collided with two motorcycles in the Phoop area of Bhind district, Madhya Pradesh.

The fatal collision occurred around 11 a.m. on the Gwalior-Itawa road, a stretch notorious for heavy traffic and poor enforcement of speed regulations.

According to initial reports, the truck lost control and rammed into both motorcycles simultaneously, throwing the victims several meters due to the sheer force of the impact. Bhola Khan, a professional diver, was riding one of the bikes. The second was ridden by Sunil Baghel, who was travelling with his wife Sunita (32), daughter Anshu (15), and son Chhote (5). The family was reportedly heading to a nearby village when the tragedy struck.

Police confirmed that three victims — Bhola Khan, Sunil Baghel, and Sunita — died on the spot, while the children later succumbed to their injuries at the hospital.

“The truck driver fled the scene immediately, abandoning the vehicle on the roadside,” said Satyendra Singh Rajput, in-charge of Phoop Police Station and the investigating officer. Emergency services and local police rushed to the site after being alerted by bystanders, but by then, the damage had been done.

The mangled remains of the motorcycles and the gruesome condition of the victims underscored the violent nature of the crash. All bodies were sent for post-mortem examinations at the district hospital, while a case has been registered against the absconding driver under charges of rash driving and culpable homicide not amounting to murder.

The incident has triggered public outrage, with residents demanding stricter control over speeding heavy vehicles on rural roads, better road safety measures, and swift arrest of the absconding driver.

“This accident is not just an isolated tragedy — it reflects a pattern of neglect, poor regulation, and increasing fatalities involving large commercial vehicles on Madhya Pradesh roads,” said a senior police official.

Efforts are ongoing to trace and apprehend the driver, as grieving family members of the victims call for justice and compensation.
