Panaji Court grants 9-day ED custody of Shivshankar Mayekar in land grab, money laundering case

Panaji, Oct 2: A Special Court in Panaji has granted the Enforcement Directorate (ED) nine days' custody of Shivshankar Anant Mayekar, a resident of Gaum Wadi in Anjuna, in connection with a high-profile land grab and money laundering investigation.

Mayekar stands accused of cheating and document forgery to unlawfully acquire ownership of prime property originally held by the Communidade of Anjuna — a traditional village landholding body in Goa.

The ED believes the case may be part of a larger criminal network engaged in illegal land acquisition and is currently investigating the laundering of proceeds allegedly derived from such fraudulent deals.

Officials say the probe will focus on identifying the scope of the racket, uncovering other beneficiaries, and tracing the flow of illicit funds.
