Guwahati, Oct 3: The Assam Police Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigating the mysterious death of popular singer Zubeen Garg has arrested two more individuals — his bandmate Shekhar Jyoti Goswami and co-singer Amritprava Mahanta — bringing the total number of arrests in the case to four, sources told NDTV on Thursday.

Both Goswami and Mahanta were reportedly present with Garg at a yacht party during the North East India Festival on September 19. The 52-year-old singer went for a swim and was later found floating face down in the water.

According to SIT sources, Goswami was seen swimming very close to Garg in videos from the incident, while Mahanta recorded the entire episode on her cellphone. Both had been questioned over the past six days before their arrest.

Earlier, Garg’s manager Siddharth Sharma and North East India Festival manager Shyamkanu Mahanta were arrested on Wednesday. They have now been charged with murder, culpable homicide not amounting to murder, criminal conspiracy, and causing death by negligence in connection with Garg’s death.

SIT chief Munna Gupta, Special Director General of Assam’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID), said:

“The investigation is ongoing and we have added charges under Section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Further details cannot be shared at this time.”

Speaking to ANI, Garg’s wife Garima Garg expressed faith in the legal process:

“The investigation is ongoing. We should not comment right now. I have full faith that justice will be served and the investigation will be conducted properly. We want to know who is guilty of what, and if anyone is responsible, they will be punished soon.”

Gupta also stated that the SIT is awaiting approval to collect evidence from Singapore to further the investigation.

The case continues to be closely monitored, with authorities aiming to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the singer’s tragic death.
