Mangalore, Feb 11: Cases were registered against zilla panchayat member, Melwin D’Souza, relating to the demolition of five houses and some compounds at Neerala in Bondantila village in Neermarga.

These sites had been allotted to the beneficiaries about two decades ago, when Yashwanti Alva was the zilla parishat member. Some among the beneficiaries have built houses in these sites, while the others have just built compounds around their sites.

On Wednesday, under instructions from Melwin D’Souza, some people partially demolished the houses and brought down compound walls. Melwin claimed that this area had been sanctioned for open air theatre.

Angered by this measure, the aggrieved people filed complaints in the police station, duly supporting the complaints with the help of title deeds allotted by the government to them. Separate complaints filed by Upendra Kumar, Shobha Rani, and Vedavati were registered by the personnel of rural police station here.
