US mulls $1 Trump coin for 250th Independence Anniversary

Washington, Oct 4: The US Treasury is considering issuing a $1 coin featuring former President Donald Trump to mark the 250th anniversary of American independence in 2026.

Draft images shared by Treasurer Brandon Beach on X show Trump with a clenched fist and the words “fight, fight, fight” on one side — a phrase he used after surviving an assassination attempt last year. The reverse side carries his profile, with “liberty” above and “1776-2026” inscribed below.

“While a final design has not yet been selected, this draft reflects the enduring spirit of our country and democracy, even in the face of immense obstacles,” a Treasury spokesperson said.

The plan follows a 2020 law allowing the minting of $1 coins for the semiquincentennial. A similar effort was made during the 1976 bicentennial, when the $1 coin depicted the Liberty Bell alongside the moon, with President Dwight D. Eisenhower on the reverse.

White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt said she was unsure if Trump had seen the draft design, but added, “I’m sure he’ll love it.”
