Washington, Oct 5: Dussehra was celebrated with vibrant energy at the ISKCON Temple in Maryland, USA, where members of the Indian diaspora gathered alongside dignitaries from the Indian Embassy and local American officials. Among them was India’s Deputy Chief of Mission, Ambassador Namya C. Khampa, who extended festive greetings and praised ISKCON’s efforts in fostering spiritual growth and interfaith harmony.
The Indian Embassy, sharing glimpses from the celebration on social media, highlighted the presence of notable guests including Maryland Lieutenant Governor Aruna Miller and other state dignitaries. The event underscored the strong cultural connection between India and its diaspora, even thousands of miles from home.

Dussehra, or Vijayadashami, marks the victory of good over evil and the end of Navaratri. The celebration in Maryland reflected both devotion and community spirit, bridging cultures and continents.
Just days earlier, on October 2, the Indian Embassy in Washington commemorated Mahatma Gandhi’s 156th birth anniversary with a solemn event celebrating his legacy. The gathering brought together Indian professionals, students, and friends of India, reinforcing Gandhi’s universal relevance.
Srimati Karuna, director of the Gandhi Memorial Center in Bethesda, delivered a talk reflecting on Gandhi’s life, his inspirations, and enduring message. The program also featured soul-stirring bhajans performed by differently abled Indian artists, Anusha Manjunath and Vasundhara Raturi, offering a heartfelt tribute to the Mahatma.
