Mangaluru, Oct 5: "Music sweetens human life. Over the last forty years, I have taught music to thousands of children. I am truly blessed to have been a music teacher. Teaching music has given me complete satisfaction. And today, this honour has come to me unexpectedly," expressed music teacher Carmelita Alvares as she shared her joy. She was speaking after accepting the Honour during the International Music Day celebration, organized jointly by Mandd Sobhann and Sumell at Kalaangann on October 5.

Raina Sequeira, coordinator of Sumell, gave the introductory speech and provided information about the vision of Eric Ozario in establishing Sumell, the work of Sumell in training new artistes by including senior artistes, and the programs it organizes. Louis Pinto, president of Mandd Sobhann, felicitated Carmelita Alvares. Premi Lobo read the citation. Office bearers Rony Crasta, Sunil Monteiro, Clara Pinto and spouse of awardee Wilfred Alvares were present on the dais. Ashlin Vismaya Lobo compered the felicitation programme. Keron Madtha handled the announcements.

At the beginning of the programme, Clara D'Cunha prepared the ambience of Kalaangann, as appropriate for International Music Day Celebration, with her melodious playing of flute.

As the 286th programme of the Monthly Theatre Series, the Sumell presented Antyakshari. Following the traditional format of Antyakshari—where the next song must begin with the last letter of the previous song—the contest included 6 rounds. These rounds featured traditional songs, Mandd Sobhann songs, Goan songs, songs with boys' and girls' names, a round involving the audience, and a multi-lingual round incorporating Kannada, Tulu, English, Hindi, Punjabi and Sri Lankan songs.

The Antyakshari was presented amidst applauds from the audience. Simon Monteiro, Lavina Danthy, Reinald Lobo, Jacinta Bela, Prima Ferrao, Prithuma Monteiro, and Raina Sequeira compeered the rounds. Alron Rodrigues, Ashwil Colaco, Reinald Lobo, and Keith Rasquinha enhanced the vibe through soulful music under the leadership of Sanjay Rodrigues.
