Dicholi, Oct 8: The Amthane Dam, a critical water storage and supply facility in Dicholi, is set to restore full functionality after repair work on its underwater iron gate, built nearly four decades ago, is completed. Water Resources Minister Subhash Shirodkar informed reporters that the repairs, executed on a war-footing basis, are expected to be finished by October 20, following which the dam will be filled to full capacity. At present, the reservoir stands more than half full.

Over the years, the underwater gate had become non-functional, creating operational challenges for the Water Resources Department (WRD). A contractor was engaged to restore the gate, with repair work being carried out urgently to ensure uninterrupted water supply. Once completed, the dam will continue to supply water to the Asnoda Water Treatment Plant and support irrigation needs, as before.

In addition to the Amthane Dam, the minor dam and barrage project at Sal, along with associated pumping stations at Sal and near Amthane, are progressing and are expected to be completed by March 2026. Once operational, this infrastructure will enable substantial water transfer from Sal to Amthane, securing adequate water supply for the region in upcoming seasons.

Minister Shirodkar highlighted that the Water Resources Department is prioritizing these projects to make the dams fully operational and ready for the next water season, ensuring reliable water availability for both domestic and agricultural use.
